Fire Escape Staircase Inspection
Inspections of fire escapes is nominated as a requirement on the fire certificate under Fire Precautions 1971, part C paragraph 27:
External fire escapes, staircases and balconies which form means of fire escape from the premises shall be examined by a competent person 3 years after the date of certificate.
They should be examined thereafter at intervals not exceeding three years and all necessary repair and maintenance work should be carried out.
A written report of every examination or repair and maintenance work and a certificate stating that the structure is in a safe and satisfactory condition should be completed by the competent person and attached to the log book referred to which is the requirement 4.4 of the fire certificate.
Regular inspection will highlight any potential failure and also provide valuable information on the state of the associated structure.
